I am a 33 year old former U.S. soldier, I.T. grunt, & not-so-proud member of the obese (BMI 40.3 at max). Like so many people, I let the standard American diet and ennui sap the life out of me and when combined with a fairly serious injury forcing me out of the Army, I ballooned up and joined the obese.Between being injured, a geek, and a pack-a-day smoker, I accepted that “fat” was who I was.
In high school, I was a competitive runner, focusing on Cross-Country and long-distance Track and Field. I could remember what it felt like to run fast and free, but had given up on myself. When my family finally called me out on my self-destructive tendencies in 2012, I vowed to make a change. I quit smoking, started P90X, and cleaned up my diet – all at once, to boot! I lost 100 lbs (so far!), dropped over 12 inches from my waist, and worked at getting back to being a runner again.
Now, I am finishing law school, have completed multiple 1/2 marathons, a 25k trail race, and am beginning to train for my first full marathon. All while dropping my body back down to optimal racing weight and finding my confidence again. My athletic goals are to run the Boston Marathon, Big Sur Marathon, & a full Iron-distance triathlon (Rev3 Cedar Point!)
